UIndy is excited to be the new home of a vintage woodwind
collection, thanks to a generous donation by retired local businessman and
collector Norman Cohen and his wife, Maxine. The Cohens donated 55 historic
instruments that span the 20th century. The rarest pieces are permanently
displayed in the Krannert Memorial Library, while the rest will be available
for top music students to play.
The display was unveiled Monday evening, as a kick-off to UIndy's first-ever
Jazz Week. Jazz concerts take place every night this week and feature top local
and regional acts, such as the Jamey Aebersold Quartet and the Buselli Wallarab
Jazz Orchestra.
It's shaping up to be a great week, spearheaded by our director of Jazz Studies, Harry Miedema. A seasoned saxophonist, Harry has performed with
legends like the O'JAYS, the Jackson Five, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations and the
Supremes. We're proud to have a talent like Harry leading our jazz program and
excited to be a hub for jazz concerts this week. For full details on the week, check out our Arts Web site.
